For some of the most panoramic views of this lovely coastline stay at Orchard House, a beautiful, large, detached property only a short distance from the beach.
Orchard House stands in its own secluded orchard and garden, overlooking Start Bay and the surrounding rolling countryside. A footpath runs by the side of the house and leads onto the South West Way coastal footpath. Turn right to the ruins of the old Hallsands fishing village, Start Point lighthouse, the superb Mattiscombe and Lannacombe beaches, Prawle Point and East Portlemouth. From here you can take the passenger ferry to Salcombe opposite, with lots of sailing activities on offer. Alternatively, turn left on the footpath to the fishing village of Beesands, Torcross, Slapton Sands, Slapton Leigh, Strete, Blackpool Sands, Stoke Fleming and on to the famous naval town of Dartmouth.
Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are both approximately eight miles away. There are plenty of local pubs with excellent menus including 'The Cricket Inn' at Beesands, 'The tradesman at Stockenham and 'The Millbrook' at South Pool.

Summary: The house is lovely could benefit from more dusting it set two of our groups asthma off. So the huge disappointment for us was there was zero description on the write up on here of the driveway to the property several sharp bends down and up hills through a farm very steep track up to the house the parking was so small and meant one car had to reverse out. My dad didn't want to drive again until going home as was worried about how steep it was and overgrown and the cars both struggled up to the house. This ruined the holiday for half of us unfortunately. We wouldn't have booked especially at the price we paid had we known this. Luckily there was plenty to see by the house using the costal paths and we did several walks from the property. Our Waitrose order couldn't get up the driveway and there was no signal to call us so our weeks shop didn't arrive total let down meant an hours roundtrip to the nearest shop. If you do book be aware that you need even had towels as these arent provided in any bathroom. Take plenty of food/drinks with and good luck getting in and out via that awful driveway totally overgrown and steep track. The mattresses are shocking in every room and the cheap plastic mattress covers didn't help for a good nights sleep. Most of the kitchen lights were out and the hob light which made cooking difficult would not stay again unfortunately despite the location on the coastal path that was the saving Grace for us
