Room in Mid Century Modern Desert Home | Bed & Breakfast in Desert Hot Springs, CA

1 Bedroom Bed & Breakfast with Air Conditioner, Pool and TV
This room has stunning views of Mount San Jacinto and is part of a mid century desert home in the same yard, with the Desert Casita Hideaway (VRBO property 2105008). With a sliding glass door out to the yard and pool, it is comfy, artistic and pleasant. It also serves as a bit of a library for the house, having lots of interesting books, if you are an avid reader. Our guests are invited to check out any book in the "library". The bathroom has a shower stall with a beautiful and artistic tile mosaic. The bathroom also has a door out to the yard, with an electronic lock. The 1961 builder of this custom house apparently intended that the swimming pool should have convenient access to a bathroom. Even though the bathroom is maybe 5 x 5 feet, it has the unusual feature of having three doors - one to the outside & pool, one to the bedroom and one to the kitchen. The latter is closed off, giving the guests privacy from the rest of the house.
The bedroom has a small refrigerator, a microwave oven, a toaster, a Keurig style coffeemaker, and a one burner induction cooktop. There are enough utensils to make an omelet and toast. Although it has a small table with chairs where you can enjoy your breakfast inside, you will want to go out to the yard and enjoy the gorgeous view of the Coachella Valley, Mount San Jacinto and the swimming pool. The air-conditioning system in the room, is a split system. You can control the temperature, and make it as you cool or as warm as you like.
If you are renting the Desert Casita Hideaway and need another room for other family members, this is the place. You are welcome to directly contact the owner for more information about this, if you like. If you are renting the casita, please ask the owner about a discount for this room. The room is for rent separately from the casita in this listing. The property is on the edge of the desert, at the end of a cul de sac, in a family neighborhood. One of our neighbors is a classical pianist who is even a bit famous (https://www.instagram.com/dannyholtmusic/?hl=en) and Desert Hot Springs, while a bit sleepier and more low key than Palm Springs and Palm Desert, has the arts community. Many musicians call DHS home. We also have lots of great hiking close by. The Miracle Springs Spa is a few blocks from the house, where one can sample several hot mineral water pools there, for the cost of a day pass, about $14-18 (https://www.miraclesprings.com). Our pool is available to use as well.
This is a quiet and peaceful place to stay. It's a nice jumping off point to explore all the wonderful attractions of the desert!
COVID 19: Prior to your arrival, we bleach and / or sanitize al the surfaces of the Casita, including the floors. Our laundry and linens and all surfaces in the casita are also thoroughly washed, bleached, and sanitized prior to your arrival.
Renting the Mid Century Modern Room: some of our visitors come for an extended stay from cooler climes such as the northern states, Canada or Europe. While anyone is welcome to rent, we normally do not rent to people for more than 29 days, due to California landlord tenant laws, unless our visitors can show proof of departure such as a plane ticket or visa. We usually do not rent out our property during the hottest summer months, unless by special arrangement, since we want to protect our wildlife (ask for more details via email at desertambrosia@gmail.com). Two nights is the minimum stay.
The pool: Built at the same time as the main house, it is a true mid-century modern pool in that it is very deep at the deep end - almost 10 feet deep. We do not normally rent to people with really young children, for safety reasons. Our visitors must commit to taking personal responsibility to keep themselves, and their pets safe in the house and in the pool, as there is no life guard. There is a pool cover, which helps to solar heat the pool. Some visitors prefer to remove it so they can just enjoy the incredible view. The pool water temperature is swimmable from about March through October. In the winter months it can be swimmable but we cannot guarantee it.
WiFi / TV: Robust WiFi is in the room. There is an Eero signal booster which ensures that the signal is good. We do NOT have cable TV and there IS NO TV in the room, since most people have their own Hulu, YouTube, Netflix, etc. subscriptions and access them on their own devices.
NOTE: There is absolutely NO SMOKING inside the room. Guests are welcome to smoke outside on the patio, as long as it is away from windows and not near the open door of the casita, and the main house.
The neighborhood: Desert Hot Springs (DHS) is an ethnically diverse city, located on the north side of the Coachella Valley. It is beautiful, breezy, and home to the most incredible views anywhere. DHS also sits on top of one of the largest hot water aquifers in the world. There are local day spas where one can enjoy the hot mineral pools for a reasonable fee. They also have other spa amenities such as massage, hair and nail salon services. It is close enough to walk to, if you please. Great golf courses abound in the desert. In DHS, there two very popular, reasonably difficult courses. Our favorite, Desert Dunes (https://www.desertdunesgc.com), has lots of wildlife such as desert hares, roadrunners, birds and more that wander out on the fairway as one golfs. The Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells communities, as well as casinos and other resort areas are a short drive away. They have extensive shopping, dining, museums, art fairs, weekend farmers' markets and more (some subject to COVID 19 closures so stay tuned!) The Swiss-built Palm Springs Tram is a desert favorite and is back open with reservations (https://pstramway.com). The Palm Springs Air Museum has a world famous collection of WWII aircraft. The Palm Springs Art Museum is also world class. To the north is Joshua Tree National Park. In the desert there are many music communities including classical, blue grass and jazz. Morongo Casino and Desert Hills Premium Outlets (https://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlet/desert-hills), also known as "Cabazon" are a twenty minute drive away. Should you wish to go to visit Los Angeles or San Diego, they are about two hours away, either one.
Just north of our cul de sac is the open desert and the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Many in the neighborhood go for hikes up the hills. If one went far enough it would take you to the southern border of Joshua Tree National Park.
DHS is home to some great eating establishments: two excellent sushi restaurants, several outstanding Mexican restaurants, and Indian, Korean, Thai eateries. There are also diners and fast food restaurants.
Dogs: one small dog is permitted with an additional fee. While the yard is completely enclosed, we recommend that you keep an eye on your dog while in the yard, to prevent them from wandering into the pool, or something of that sort. Also, dogs must be kept inside with you and not in the yard, unless you are with them. Because we are on the edge of the desert, occasionally wild life such as coyotes and large owls have been spotted. Dogs prone to nuisance barking or aggressive in nature are not welcome. The quiet of the desert is treasured by all, especially at night!
