Positive: Lakes Lodge Okataina is perfect for those who require peaceful solitude, it's for people who need to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of the every day traffic jam, malls and regular 9-5 activity. It's also for those who want to enjoy the serenity of NZ's natural forests and a very beautiful lake. I stayed at the lodge with my daughter and friend last weekend, and found the rooms to be very large and clean. Manaia who sits at the front desk was pleasant and easy to deal with. The lodge is pet friendly so my dog was able to come along. She enjoyed swimming in the lake and walking through the large well manicured grounds. There was a very large group with several families across the way including another family next door to our cabin but we found that we didn't hear them much even though they were outside cooking and cleaning fish they'd caught in the lake that day. It was lovely to see families, couples and individuals having a great time in such a peaceful setting. Beside the lovely forest day walks and lake, there's also a glow worm track which is free of charge that you can explore at night. I'll be honest I was freaking out with every sound the forest made in the pitch black, but the glow worm experience was spectacular! and so worth the panic attack lol. The lodge provided me with the necessary info I needed well before I headed there, so I was prepared before I got to the venue with everything I needed. It is a remote venue(30km away from Rotorua Central) so please read up about what you need and make sure you take food and drinks with you.
