Lincolnville Condo | Iconic Lakeview Living Charming Downtown Cottage full of History

1 Bedroom Condo with Bedding, Internet and Kitchen

Iconic is a curious word to describe a condo, but this isn't your ordinary condo. The building was commissioned in 1885 by Henry Flagler, a founder of both the Standard Oil Company & Florida East Coast Railway, it was used as the living quarters for the gentlemen who worked for him at his hotel the Ponce de Leon (now part of Flagler College). It was finished in 1893 and was known as the Ponce de Leon Barracks. The condo is charming & comfortable & so well done. Come relax and enjoy this gem!
It sits on what was Maria Sanchez Creek before Mr. Flagler had it filled in to create land for both the Ponce de Leon Hotel, the Alcazar Hotel (now the Lightner Museum), and the Ponce de Leon Barracks.
In 2004, a developer bought the building and turned it into high-end, luxury condominiums. The condo where you'll be staying is in the southern half of the building which is one of the oldest brick buildings in St. Augustine. The owners had the ingenious idea of highlighting the beautiful brickwork using wooden boards to frame the brick.
Other unusual features include a light fixture made from a block of wood with old-fashioned lightbulbs on cord wrapped around it so that the lights are at different heights. A retro refrigerator adds charm to an ultra modern kitchen. The dining area consists of what looks like a small diner table and an L shaped bench built into the brick.
The condo features two sleeping areas -- a master bedroom and the Florida Room which doubles as a bedroom with two twin beds (one a trundle) and a sofa-sleeper.
The bathroom features textured tile placed in a typical brickwork pattern and a rain-shower to soothe and relax you.
Step outside to the porch for an evening of chatting, relaxing, or reading and in the backyard you'll find two lounge chairs perfect for soaking up some Vitamin D.
The guests may access all parts of this condo to relax and enjoy!

You will find Iconic Lakeview Living by both a wooded and residential area where this building overlooks the Maria Sanchez lake. This lake is located at the southern end of Historic Lincolnville and St Augustine's peninsula. History tells us that this now lake, was once a creek that meandered just past Cordova Street, and reaching as far north as Flagler College! The creek's location gave an extra layer of defense for the then, young city. A Bridge crossed the tidal waters during the British Period in the 1700's giving Bridge Street its name. In the mid 1800's the banks of the creek became the eastern border for a post-war community settled by African Americans. They called the area "Africa" which became today's Linconville Neighborhood. When Henry Flagler came to town, building his state of the art hotels, he needed more dry land. They dredged and filled in the tidal creek with sand and Flagler's hotel, now Flagler College, did indeed go up! This condo, is surrounded by history. Around it you will find The Lightner Museum, Flagler College, and the Casa Monica hotel, originally also built by Flagler which went through many transitions such as becoming the County Courthouse as late as 1962. In the mid 1990's the Courthouse was bought by Kessler of the Kessler Hotel Collection and has since been a luxury hotel known again as the Casa Monica. Rich in history, you will find this community of Iconic Lakeview Living, the perfect mix of old and new. New restaurants and shops. Vehicles and horse drawn buggies. Come and visit and learn about our nation's oldest city, St Augustine.
St Augustine is a walking city. The time just flies as you walk through the nation's oldest streets learning so many interesting facts. Shops, shows, and restaurants whose tantalizing scents lure you in for a meal. For all of this most walk. You will also find the red and green train, Uber, horse and buggy and more to take you back home after a long day of shopping, eating and site seeing. Car or Uber necessary for those who want to see the beaches or head over The Bridge of Lions to Anastasia Island.
Some of the favorite things that the owners love to do are listed here for your pleasure as well!
The Ice House Restaurant & Distillery, The San Sebastian Winery, local breweries
The many Historical Sites, all the shopping and dining options.
The Lighthouse on the island and make sure you climb to the top for a most amazing view.
The few minute drive to the Beaches and marinas and the short walk to the beautiful bay front.
Our favorite place in the condo to spend a peaceful and relaxing afternoon is the Florida room and covered porch. Come and see for yourself. This lovely condo is perfect for a weekend or weeks on end. Comfy and cozy and absolutely charmingly adorable!
