Nestled on the beautiful MacDonald River in the Hawkesbury, Thompson’s Cottage is a charming farm cottage that is perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape from the city or an active family seeking time away from devices.
The property is bordered by the UNESCO World Heritage listed Yengo National Park, the beautiful MacDonald River, open space and native bush for you to enjoy wildlife and nature at its best right on your door step. Once you unpack and settle in you will find it hard to believe you are so close to Sydney.
The two-hectare block with a traditional farm cottage is an ideal holiday away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney but within a relatively short drive.
This property is home to a wide range of wildlife and fauna, including birds, frogs, crickets, goannas, wombats and wallabies.
Location:
The nearby township of St Albans is on the banks of the Macdonald River, a tributary of the Hawkesbury River. St Albans is 90 km north west of Sydney. St Albans is in the MacDonald Valley which hosts many mountain bikes and endurance horse riding competitions, mountain or cross country runs, the yearly St Albans Folk Festival and canoeing in the river. St Albans is renown by many for a drink or meal at its historic pub, the Settlers Arm Inn built in 1836. The local area has a wealth of indigenous and colonial history and interesting stories from Australia's past. It is fondly known as "The Forgotten Valley" and yet only less than two hours from Sydney CBD.
The Cottage:
Thompson’s Cottage is about a 20 minute drive from the historic township of St Albans. Features include:
- Well equipped kitchen
- Wood pot belly fireplace for winter heating in living and dining room
- Outdoor table and chairs on the balcony which is bathed in the northern sun and overlooks the river and area
- Two bedrooms with double beds and outdoor access
- Main bathroom with adjoining bathroom
- Ceiling fans in each room and split system air conditioning in living room
- BBQ and outside fire pit (subject to local fire restrictions)
- Ample parking
- Pet friendly (although please make sure your dog is secure at night to protect the nocturnal wildlife)
- The cottage is fenced with an adjoining 2-hectare paddock
- Borders World Heritage listed Yengo National Park which is great for walking and wildlife

- The house is on tank water and so we ask you to conserve water
- Access to the property is via a good river crossing however a 4WD vehicle is required alternatively leave car on otherside and it is short 100m walk to the house.

- Great mountain bike tracks up the World Heritage listed Old Great North Road
-Horse riding trails or watch the world's longest endurance race, the Shahzada Memorial Endurance Test based at St Albans each year
- Enjoy the four day St Albans Folk Festival (April) and the Easter Sunday markets.
- There are many wonderful bushwalks in the World Heritage listed national parks Yengo and Wollemi National Parks home to the world famous Wollemi pine and Dharug National Park
- Although the vast majority of our guests just enjoy the serenity ad that very rare ability to completely shut off from devices and enjoy the property and nature at its best.
