The Malibu Retreat is an award-winning 3 acre unique property that backs up to 10,000 acres of Malibu Canyon nature and parkland. Located in Monte Nido - which has been called Calabasas’ little secret by Martha Stewart is home to some of the most influential families on the planet. It’s also home to people seeking a peaceful communion with nature, fresh air, mountain hikes, ocean breezes & clear night skies. Just a few miles from Malibu’s Pepperdine University, and a few steps from the legendary Saddle Peak Lodge, our guests enjoy the same creek beds with babbling brooks, wooden bridges to cross them, canopies of oak and sycamore trees & country living scene that’s been home to entertainment industry greats and legends since the 1920s.
The Main Estate is a Mediterranean style main house with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 balconies, 3 fireplaces, conversation pit, gourmet kitchen, office, tiled outdoor living room with fountains, pool, jacuzzi & DCS stainless steel BBQ.
The gourmet kitchen is top quality customized with plenty of hand crafted limestone countertops, Viking double oven 6 burner range & griddle, food warmer & Sub-zero refrigerator. It opens to the dining room & outdoors to the mountains. The house also have several living rooms, a home office, an old school conversation pit with fireplace, a meditation room, an outdoor Zen Yoga Deck & new 7000 sq ft lush lawn!
Upstairs has 3 bedrooms which include:
1) the extra large Shabby Chic Master Bedroom w/ private balcony, breathtaking mountain views, private ensuite bath w/ tumbled marble Ann Sax tiles, multi-jet steam shower, Toto bidet, Kohler faucets, double vessel sinks, fireplace, brand new king mattress, a mini frig and a TV too.
2) the second upstairs bedroom is the Anthropology Family Suite. This colorful bedroom has a king bed downstairs & 2 twins up in its loft. It sleeps 4 easily & shares both a balcony & bath w/ the Santana bedroom. It has a small couch, bureau & Smart TV.
3) third upstairs bedroom is called the Santana Suite, aptly names for 1 of the guitars which adjourns its walls. This cool room has a comfortable king bed, bureau, desk & shares it’s balcony & bath w/ the Anthropology Suite.
The balcony Bedrooms 2 & 3 share have a mini fridge & views of the property.
The bathroom Bedrooms 2+3 share is a handcrafted tiled bathroom which has a shower / bathtub and TWO sinks/ vanities (1 sink is inside the bathroom & the other is outside the bathroom).
Downstairs is home to the 4th bedroom (the Hawaiian Room), which has its own private patio & is across the hall from a full funky bathroom. It’s between the office / living room & meditation room & has a double sized bed for 2 more people to sleep comfy.
The downstairs bathroom is fun & it’s mosaic tiled walls & colors were inspired by the “House of Blues” with a splash of “Wolfgang Puck” styles. It’s got a walk in tiled shower, bidet toilet & glass cobalt wall vessel sink.
The downstairs has many unique & functional spaces. In addition to the 4th bedroom & full bath- these include:
-a fully stocked gourmet custom kitchen complete with limestone countertops, a 6 burner gas Viking Stove with griddle, double ovens, a Sub Zero side by side refrigerator, food warmer, double desks (so the kids can do homework while you cook!), slate floors, colorful Anne Saks hand blown accent tiles & retro bar stools. It is quickly becomes a primary hang out space for the family to surround whoever is cooking! The kitchen has views of the outdoors, the yoga deck & opens directly to the dining room.
-Dining room has a large wood table & opens to the kitchen, the outdoors, as well as the “conversation Pit”.
-the 70’s inspired conversation pit is filled with Moroccan pillows, & surrounds the custom painted working fireplace (1 of 3 in the house).
-immediately to the right of the main entry to the house, guests can enjoy the meditation room. Also known as the “Zen Den” complete with a work at home pottery barn desk, wifi printer & blazing fast Internet.
To the left is the laundry room complete with new Washer & Dryer.
Down the hall, guests will find one of the property’s living rooms. This one is complete with a 55 inch smart TV, a working fireplace, down custom couch, loveseat & comfy chairs w/ pool & mtn views.
Most downstairs rooms open to the outdoors easily. It’s a very fluid inside / outside type of house that was designed for comfortable, easy real living, while maintaining its high quality luxury & unique design.
The downstairs floors are authentic Saltillo tiled floors & wood. The upstairs has more modern wood floors with area rugs.
This special house is admirably located across from the legendary Saddle Peak Lodge in the exclusive Monte Nido neighborhood.
The decor is referred to as Malibu Boho Chic Mediterranean & is an amazing space to enjoy a family vacation. The Malibu Retreat is home to Sunset Sessions (where many world class musicians got their start) & Life Source Retreats’ (a wellness & yoga program born in Tulum MX). The owner is a well known radio promoter & manager in the music industry.
THIS listing is for the Main Estate house only, although the “music promoter guest house” is on the property as well & could be available for you if you need to sleep 8/9 more, or may be blocked off for extra fees (if you want to ensure complete privacy). If it’s rented by other guests, the only areas of the property that would be “shared” are the main driveway & the pool / jacuzzi area. The rest of the property belongs to the Main Estate Guests only & is very private (ie the Mediterranean Mountain View patios, the Zen Yoga Deck, the huge lawn area & lower wooded lot).
The unique outdoor spaces include:
1) Multi-Level Mediterranean Patio, outdoor living room surrounded by stunning mountain views, handcrafted benches from Positano Italy, gas-fueled Weber BBQ, perfectly tuned wind-chimes & flowing water fountains.
2) Natural Bottom Pool and Jacuzzi (either of which can be heated for extra costs- scroll to bottom for exact details*), surrounded by palm trees, indigenous boulders & a gas fire pit, which can host an elegant evening, or be opened up to your friends and family for a pool party!
3) Protected oak grove and whimsical woods with flowers & succulent beds
4) 900 Square Foot Wood Zen Yoga Deck with Buddhas, Bamboo & Flowers & a ping pong table too!
5) Large 7000 sq ft lush lawn with Mountain View’s
6) 2 large driveways
Please note we also issue direct leases with our guests once you book here & we require a 3-5k direct security deposit for Main House (which is fully refundable within 15 days of departure provided all is well). This will be covered in our lease.
If you’d like to bring a dog, we love dogs! We’ll just need to include that in your lease & there will be an additional pet security deposit.
For Liability Purposes, only registered guests are permitted on property- so if you plan to have company, please include your guests in the total booking number.
Also note, due to the new laws & restrictions, if you’d like have a party or gathering of more than 15 people, we have to treat it as a gathering, give advance approval in writing & there will be some extra charges.
While we DO allow for some parties, special events, filming, photo shoots or weddings, they all must be in compliance w/ local & state laws, they WILL cost extra & they MUST be sorted out & contracted in advance.
The extra costs for any type of gatherings /events or professional uses (photo shoots, movie or video productions etc), range from 3k to 50k MORE than the overnight booking, depending on the number of people you have on property, the date, times & whats involved in your event. If you’d like information on any type of event or gathering more than your basic overnight stay booking- please send an inquiry with these details in your request: date(s), event times (be sure to include the time to set up before & clean up after) & total number of people you want to have on property (including all guests, vendors, staff etc). We get sooo many inquiries for events & are very careful about those we approve.
* Jacuzzi or Pool can be heated upon advanced request.
Summer Rates: June 1-Oct 31st (add $25 per day for winter dates)
Jacuzzi is $150 per day w/ a 2 night
& the full Pool is $225 per day w/ a 3 day minimum.
-48 hours notice & advance payment required for either.
-The Pool takes about 24 hours to reach its max temp of 85 degrees (it’s 35,000 gallons of water!).
-Jacuzzi can be heated to 104 degrees max in about 3-5 hours.
-Guest Charge begins when the heater is turned on (if you want the pool heated up by 3pm on your day of arrival, it must be turned on 24 hours prior).
-It’s not possible to heat BOTH pool & Jacuzzi at the same time.
-Also note: 1 day = 1 calendar day NOT 24 hours. Ie, if you heat the jacuzzi for 2 days over a 2 night stay, it will be hot when you check in on the first day (3pm or so) & until the pool closes at 10pm that night (day 1) and then it will be hot again the whole next day from 8am-10pm (day 2). But it will NOT still be hot on the morning that you check out (that would be day 3).
-Please send us your request to heat & if possible, we’ll send you instructions for advanced payment.
