5☆ unique, peaceful, architecturally beautiful family house in Mas, Ubud. Bali | Villa in Mas, Indonesia

Located just a short 7 minute drive from central Ubud.
Set in a coconut grove of over 6,000 square metres, ‘Rumah Tanah Liat’ is a stunning secluded, private home.
Sitting just below the canopy of the coconut trees, this beautiful structure is made primarily from the reclaimed teak of old Javanese knockdown joglos and limosans and the roof is a stretch of ironwood shingles.
Bedroom 1 is cantilevered out over the alfresco dining, lounge area below. It overlooks the pool, the back gardens and the fields next door. It has A/C.
It has a bathroom with a rain shower, toilet, plenty of space for clothes and a beautiful double sink made from one solid piece of teak.
Bedroom 2 is a large, airy space designed for relaxing and enjoying the peace. It has a desk and A/C. The ensuite bathroom - open up to the ironwood roof apex, has a wonderful rain shower, toilet, polished concrete walls and a magnificent stone sink.
Bedroom 3 is the kids' space and is designed over two levels; the upper level, the 'tower' bedroom is accessed by an ironwood staircase and has an elevated, platform single bed, a smaller day/toddler bed and a desk area.
The lower level has a desk area and generous shelving and hanging space for clothes. There is a full ensuite bathroom leading off the lower bedroom area, with a bath, toilet and sink. No A/C.
We also have a spare single mattress.
The TV room has a sofa, a TV & DVD player and hundreds of DVDs (kids and adults.)
It is possible to put a single mattress into here should you wish.
Downstairs to the open plan dining and living area you pass by a small toilet with a handbasin at the bottom of the stairs hidden behind a secret door!
There is a large area that is covered over but open on three sides to enjoy the views of the fields, gardens and pool; it has a comfortable seating area and a vast bespoke dining table seats about 10 people comfortably.
Through the sliding glass doors into the kitchen, there is bar seating for three and a dining table that can seat 6 comfortably. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, and an electric oven.
It has A/C so that the kitchen doors can be closed at night and you can cook, entertain and enjoy the space in cool comfort. The back wall behind the dining table is a huge blackboard: hours are spent drawing and creating masterpieces here (by the whole family!)
The pool is 14.5 metres x 3.5 metres. The section closest to the house is a shallow wallowing splash area, perfect for kids to play.
The main pool is about 1.5 metres deep and perfect for laps.
The house will be thoroughly cleaned six days a week, generally Monday-Saturday, by Ibu Ketut, our wonderful, totally trustworthy cleaner.
She speaks only a little English and she would be in the house for around 4 hours per day, arriving around midday.
If you need a babysitter, I work at a nearby school and can recommend one of the staff whom I have worked with for many years.
Pak Ketut, our lovely gardener can be found around and about the property most days; he will be very respectful of your privacy, he speaks English fairly well and will contact us or happily help you if there is any problem.
Our washing machine is available for your use.
Our home 'may' not be suitable rent for guests with children under 7 years, unless babes in arms, we do, however, have children of our own (aged 10 and 18) who have grown up here. If you have sensible kids and you feel they would understand your guidelines regarding the further details below, then we would be happy to rent this to you in the knowledge of our following disclaimer.
☆ The house has an unusual design - the rooms are all 'spaces' on their own under one shared roof - so none of the rooms are interconnecting, you must go out into the covered space to get to the next room.
☆ The geography of the land it is on is not safe for kids to go close to the edges - the property is on a peninsular-type piece of land with high drops behind the borders and foliage, but there are plants at the edges so unless they are really crawling around off the grassed area (which is not advisable anywhere here due to snakes) then they would be totally fine.
☆ The safety of the pool area - the pool has no safety fence around it and has an area above that is high and forms the side wall of the pool.
You will have access to all of the house and gardens except our storage room under the house and the staff rooms at the entrance to the property. We may need access to these spaces during the rental, but would always coordinate this with you.
We can be available via phone or whatsapp for the duration of your stay, should you need us.
Although our home is extremely private and (for Bali) peaceful, it is worth noting that noises from the nearby village filter through and whilst you are not immersed in village sounds, you can hear cockerels and the twilight barking of dogs.
We also have a prominent Balinese temple a distance away, across the fallowed rice fields, so please be aware that when the wind carries it, the melodic temple sounds could be a cultural addition to your stay with us, especially for their 'call to prayer'.
It is worth noting that whilst all rooms in our home close up fully, protecting you from mozzies and other bugs, the remainder of the house in an indoor/outdoor space and as we live in the tropics, it is not unusual to find a sudden colony of ants having set up home overnight or gecko and bat poo in these spaces on the floor in the mornings!
We have a number of 'minimarts' a couple of minutes away for basics and larger supermarkets within a 10-15 minute drive.
Some of the most amazing restaurants and spas in the world are found within a 10 minute drive of our home. We can help you find any of these and are happy to give you any tips or advice you may need.

They have a gym, pools, steam room, basketball court, skate park, kids area, squash court and pool table. It's a family-oriented space that you might enjoy.
Parking for either bikes or cars is available on our property.
You would need to have your own transport or organise to get car or motorbike taxis, we can help you with this, alternatively, we can arrange for you to have a driver take you out and about in a comfortable car if you wish. GoCar and Gojek are other options for transport.
We are also able to organise a safe and reliable driver to pick you up directly from the airport or your hotel so that you do not have to negotiate finding us for the first time.
